Quality companion, obedience, hunting dog, & hunt test training programs

Our goal is to tailor a program to your dogs specific needs and to your expectations. Basic obedience training allows your dog to become a "better citizen". To remain in control in varying situations is a must for family or hunting dogs. We also offer different levels of field training from introductory hunt skills to hunt test and AKC field trials.

We evaluate each dog for placement level. Obedience is the heart of all our training programs. Regular exercise and a regimented training program are our secrets of success. A dog with adequate intelligence and physical attributes can be trained and conditioned to perform well. We proudly support American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club and North American Hunting Retriever Association events.

Please note:
Our training program offers in home consultations, one on one training at our facility, training courses or monthly training given by us. Please call us to discuss which program works best for you. All dogs brought to our facility for training or boarding will be required to show current shot records. If not current, we will give the required vaccinations at an additional cost of $18.00 each. Dogs shipped from state to state will require a health certificate at the owners expense.

  • Field training courses:
$35 per hour one on one at our facility, $550 for monthly course
  • Basic obedience training:
$35 per hour one on one at our facility, $50 per hour in home consultation, $500 for monthly course

Behavioral Training
Ideal for companion, family and hunt dogs. Includes heel, sit, stay, come, down and crate training. Introduction to varying real life situations. We will train your dog to fit your lifestyle. Training and socialization are key for the proper development of any dog. Without it you get dogs with obedience and social issues. Learn how to be your dogs "pack leader". You can learn how to correct unwanted behavior effectively.

    Gundog Training
  • Junior (Started) Teaches basic obedience, delivery to hand, basic marking concepts on land and water, and introduction to steadiness. This program prepares your dog the entry level hunt test events and develops his basic ability as a gun dog. Generally takes three to four months.
  • Senior (Seasoned)(Intermediate) Teaches all basic skills described above plus multiple marks (doubles and triples), steadiness, basic blind retrieves on land and in water. Introduction to whistle and hand signals. Generally takes seven to ten months.
  • Master (Finished)(Senior) Teaches all started and junior skills plus advanced marking concepts, advanced blind retrieves and hunting scenarios (multiple gunners, working dogs, hunting from blinds and boats). Direction given solely by whistle and hand signals. Generally takes ten to fourteen months or more.
  • Hunt Test or Field Trial Dogs are trained to your desired event level.

Training Area: All our obedience and yard work is primarily taught at our Hatcher Pass facility. Living here in Matsu valley gives us a multitude of public areas to go training. Palmer Hay flats and Jim Creek to name a few but there are many others. We like to train in actual hunting terrain. We also use several local farms that we incorporate the use of there fields or ponds. We do train year round but of course our field and water training is limited to summer months. Obedience, handling and some transition drills are what we teach during winter. Our trainers will make several trips outside the state during winter for water training or events. If you desire for your retriever to go on these out of state trips the travel fees for this are an additinal cost. Our training slots fill quickly about the April or May time frame.

Students are dogs brought to us by their owners for paid training as well as labs that have been rescued by us and show the potential to be good gun dogs. We have a limited number of started dogs at various levels of training available for sale.
